How to Practice Self Love

Self Love looking good from the inside out

It's the month of February, the month of Love and yes I can hear every sigh from all the single women, but the month of love does not have to be about finding love from others but it can be about rekindling the love you should have for yourself.

Working as a Personal Stylist you move into a personal space with your client quickly, its not often a space that is shared with a 'stranger' but its necessary so that I can fully understand the style needs of my client where she is now, where she would like to go with her style and how she wants to achieve with that.

Working on external style is only part of the parcel, once you take a client through the self-discovery journey she begins her journey of finding that self-love again.  I see the sparkle return to her eyes as she realizes the true beauty that has been hidden.  See, you work with who your client is, their personality, and you dress them to suit, its this part that I love the most about what I do because it makes them unique, special, one of a kind that no one can copy.  So why am I sharing this with you, because sometimes you need to start from the inside out and find your self-love, the self-worth that allows you to indulge in things that make you feel good and can take you to the next level in life.

If you find yourself feeling less than worthy of spoiling yourself then these examples of 'How to practice self-love' are for you.

Declutter your life

Spending a little bit of time each day decluttering clears your mind, my trick, I think about where I want to be in life and if that version of myself would use or require the item/s if not, out it goes.

Have a mini pamper session

Taking the time to sit down for at least a half an hour to soak your feet in a foot bath, put on a mask, meditate, read a good book or listen to an audiobook.  My trick, I have made myself a self-care box so that at the drop of a hat I am prepared for my own private pamper party.  (If you want to know what I have stashed in mine then pop on over in the next few days I will be sharing a detailed description of what I keep in it and what I use it for, I will also attach a downloadable with all the goodies and where to purchase them).

Buy yourself some flowers

I cant tell you how much of a difference this has made in my life, the thing here is, I am worth a beautiful bunch of flowers, I am valuable and I am not depending on anyone else to prove that to me.  This is often something I do in the lowest times of my life, there is just something so indulgent and loving about a beautiful bunch of flowers.

Create positive loving affirmations for yourself

I have often struggled with this because if you just write things down that your brain does not believe there seems to be a struggle that ensues in your mind.  My way around this is to start with what is true:

  • I am unique

  • There is no one on this earth like me

  • I was chosen to be here for a reason

  • I am a loving mother/daughter/friend

If you need some ideas why not ask those around you for positive words about who you are to them (please don't go near the negative nancies that you know might hurt your feelings, only  positive affirmations)

Spend some time in the sun

Basking in the sun for 15 minutes a day puts your body on a good mood level.  My trick, I sit in the sun and take in everything, how my skin is feeling, warmer, tingling, and then I go through all the things in nature I am grateful for:

  • The birds tweeting

  • The smell of fresh cut grass

  • Soft breeze on my skin

  • Blue sky

  • A different picture in the sky every day for me to guess what it is

You get the idea.

Dance like your life depends on it

Play your favorite happy song of the hour, LOUD, close the door and dance like you were 22 again, put the song on repeat 100 times if that what works for you!  My trick is to be grateful for your body's ability to hear, move and lift your mood with movement.
