When I go on a shopping trip with new clients the 1st thing on my list is a Trench Coat, a Trench Coat is by far, in my opinion, the most versatile piece you can ever purchase, it can be worn in a casual or formal setting with ease, not only is it a fashion statement but it's highly practical and definitely a style requirement for any wardrobe.

According to Wikipedia, a trench coat or trenchcoat is a raincoat made of waterproof heavy-duty cotton gabardine drill, leather, or poplin. It generally has a removable insulated lining, raglan sleeves, and the classic versions come in various lengths ranging from just above the ankles (the longest) to above the knee (the shortest). It was originally an item of clothing for Army officers (developed prior to the war but adapted for use in the trenches of the First World War, hence its name) and shows this influence in its styling.

Traditionally this garment is double-breasted with 10 front buttons, has wide lapels, a storm flap and pockets that button-close. The coat is belted at the waist with a self-belt, as well as having straps around the wrists that also buckle (to keep water from running down the forearm when using binoculars in the rain). The coat often has shoulder straps that button-close; those were a functional feature in a military context. The traditional color of a trench coat was khaki, although newer versions come in many colors.

These days the trench coat has evolved and can be found in different fabrics and less stiff styles but there is definitely one for every Style Personality.

There are however a few things you should keep in mind while shopping for your Perfect Trench Coat:

Choose a colour that works with your skin tone it should brighten your skin and not pull it down.
Take your lifestyle into consideration will you be wearing the Trench for more formal occasions or casual, I would recommend a dark-colored Trench if you would like to wear it for more formal occasions.
The modern trench coat can flatter almost any shape but remember to choose the correct style for your body shape, height, and bone structure.
Trench coats come with different belt options and can have a more masculine or feminine feel so keep your style personality and comfort in mind.
