Why you should dress with your Body Shape in Mind, Rectangle

THE RECTANGLE (free Body Shape Download)

Dressing your body shape is part and parcel of accessing the tools that will make you look good on the outside which in the end affects how we feel on the inside, but it is important that there is a balance of self-love on the inside as well as the outside.  Following the guidelines will help you look fantastic but it's just as important to embrace your shape and love who you are from the inside out.

The Rectangle Body Shape is often described as 'Boxy', the reason for this is that they are often flat chested with a flat derriere or buttocks.  Many women with this Body Shape often feel quite masculine due to their broad shoulders and lack of curves. So what is the secret formula to this Body Shape, once again like every other Body Shape they require balance.

With most Body Shapes, it is recommended that there be no details on the area they would like to minimise, but in the case of the rectangle, you would want to enhance what is 'not' there.  For example, to give the illusion of a more curvaceous look you can add details to the hip area, chest, and buttocks.  How you add detail would depend on your 'Style Personality' are you Romantic, Dramatic, Natural, Classic or Elegant.  For example, if you were a 'Romantic' Style Personality you would enhance the areas with soft flowing floral designs and frills, this, however, would be the exact opposite of the 'Classic' Personality which would prefer more pleats or folds in a more structured fabric.

Let's take a look at a basic breakdown of the Rectangle.

  • Boxy Silhouette
  • A similar circumference of bust, waist, and hip.
  • Hips tend to be square and often arms and legs proportionately slender
  • Often have a flat derriere

WHAT TO DO

  • Wear detail on the areas you would like to enhance
  • Wear your brightest colour on the area you would like to enhance

WHAT NOT TO DO

  • Do not wear shoulder pads
  • Tops and dresses with square necklines
  • Double breasted jackets
  • long straight fitted lines in trousers, dresses, and sleeves

I have not met many women in all my years in the Industry that are truly happy with their bodies, why because most women strive for magazine perfection which is not real, I always say it is in the imperfections that we are unique and so perfect just as we are.

There is only one rule that we need to follow and that is the rule of balance.  Once you know which body shape you have and how to balance it you will truly find pleasure in dressing.
